I first heard about Se7en Bites Bakery through Facebook, when a neighbor liked the new bakery’s page and it showed up on my feed. It said it was in the Milk District, the funky area east of Thornton Park and south of Colonialtown named for its proximity to the T.G. Lee Dairy. I live close by and have long been a fan of Pom Poms Teahouse and Sandwicheria and other spots that have given this area personality, so I was thrilled to hear about the opening of Se7en Bites Bakery.
On a recent sunny Sunday morning, I popped over to check out the new Se7en and went home with two bags filled with goodies. The chicken salad and southern biscuit made with ham, egg, pimiento cheese, and bacon smothered with Cheddar chive grits were so delicious, both dishes deserved the courtyard setting where my boyfriend and I enjoyed them back at home. The cornbread we also ordered was pretty tasty, too.
A week later, I was back for another chicken salad sandwich and a chicken pot pie with a flaky, buttery crust that was perfectly seasoned. The veggies tucked inside the pie alongside the roasted chicken were a bit al dente for my taste, but overall I thought the pie was more than good enough to eat again!
The sweet stuff here is definitely worth a visit, too. I’ve since had a lavender slice of shortbread that was as aromatic as it was buttery, and a blueberry scone with sweet cream that’s made fresh daily.
The menu has a few additional items on both the savory and sweet side, which I take as a good sign that owner and fellow mama Trina Gregory-Propst likes to make a few things very well rather than a lot of things mediocre. Se7en also takes orders for custom cakes.
The staff seems entirely made up of women, many of them moms, which for some reason makes me beam with pride! They’re all super friendly, especially the pixie-cut Trina with her ginger locks and blue eyes. Ditto for Suzanne, another Se7en staffer who spent 15 minutes chatting with me about everything from how much we love our neighborhood to our kids the last time I was there.
Open every day except Mondays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. Check them out HERE.
